The Alberta Association of Recreation Facility Personnel (AARFP) is a member-driven, not-for-profit organization who is dedicated to providing excellence in training and professional development for individuals involved in the operation of recreation facilities. By becoming an AARFP Member you will gain access to training designed for recreation, conferences, and consultation. You will learn how to optimize safety, comfort, and the enjoyment of your facility. Help build and support a network of recreation professionals in Alberta. To register for a course, you must be a member FIRST.

Parks & Sport Fields Level 1 - Coaldale - Aug 22-23, 2023 Register Here
This two-day course has both hands-on and in class components. Learn the essential skills needed in a parks and sport fields career: turf management, irrigation, weed control, equipment maintenance, irrigation, ball diamond construction, pest control and more. Successful candidates of this course will receive a Parks and Sport Fields Operator Level 1 Certificate.

Parks & Sport Fields Level 2 - Coaldale - Aug 24-25, 2023 Register Here
The prerequisite of this course is Parks and Sport Fields Level 1. It is a two-day course with hands-on and in class components. Learn about plant beds and hanging baskets, soil tests, landscaping, composting, vandalism, pruning and tree planting, campgrounds, by-laws and project management, skateboard parks and dog parks. Successful candidates will receive the Parks and Sport fields Operator Level 2 Certificate.

This course is tailored for grass roots arena operators that want to strengthen their expertise in ice facility operations. Participants will learn about blade changing and levelling, preventive maintenance for the resurfacer, safety protocols, effective shaving and flooding techniques, line and board repairs, glass replacement, janitorial best practices and more.

Building Maintenance Level 1 - Lac La Biche - Sept. 11-12, 2023 Register Here
Gain knowledge in various areas crucial to facility management. Learn about preventive maintenance and life cycle plans, HVAC systems, basic carpentry, including tool usage, maintenance, and drywall repair. Furthermore, the course will address painting techniques, material selection, and surface preparation. Lastly, you will gain an understanding of electricity, energy-saving practices, and workplace safety measures.
